JOHN FARRELL
Set Design

Since 1985 John has been designing musicals and operas for the theatre. In New York he is currently the resident designer for Dicapo Opera where he has created over fifty productions since 1992. Mr. Farrell has also designed for such theatres as Brooklyn Academy of Music, Naked Angels, The Julliard School, One Dream, The Directors Company, AMAS Repertory Theatre, Theatreworks USA, The Arclight, The John Houseman, and The Douglas Fairbanks Theater. He was the lead assistant for the most recent production of Grease for both Broadway and the National Tour. At Radio City Music Hall, he was the scenic supervisor for the Spring Spectacular Easter Show for two years and the Christmas Show for one. Radio City productions outside New York were the Christmas shows in Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles as an associate designer.

Across the United States, some notable productions include the premiers of Sacco and Vanzetti at Tampa Opera; La Vie en Bleu at The Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia; "The Summer of '69" off-broadway in New York; and Dodsworth at Casa Maņana in Texas. He has designed regionally in the US for such theatres as The Walnut Street Theatre, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, PA; Theatre Under the Stars, Casa Maņana, Texas Legacies, TX; The Fifth Avenue Theatre, WA; Tampa Bay performing Arts Center, Sarasota Opera, FLA; North Shore Music Theatre, MA; Chatauqua Opera, NY; and Maine State Music Theatre, ME. John has designed touring productions with Theatreworks USA, Eric Krebbs, Jeffrey Finn, Troika, and National Lyric Opera.

In Mexico City, there are two currently long-running productions designed by John at the Central Cultural TelMex; Fiddler on the Roof and Beseme Mucho.

Currently on A&E network you can see John and his work in the series Criss Angel Mindfreak. Mr. Farrell has been the exclusive set and illusion designer for the Magician Criss Angel since 1993. During that time they have done three television specials; MindFreak for ABC Family, SuperNatural for The Sci-Fi Channel, and Mr. Marick vs. Criss Angel for Tokyo Broadcasting. A video was made of this last special called Made in Japan and it won the highest honors at the 2004 Telly Awards. MindFreak was also an off-broadway production that ran for over a year with nearly 600 performances at the WWF Underground Theatre in Times Square.

Other television credits include Art director for Toys 'R Us (commercial), The Dream Team - 1996 Olympic Special for NBC, 1994 & 1995 Tony Awards, HBO's Earthly Possessions and for MTV; Get Late with Kennedy and Squirt TV.
